Surin Beach lies on Phuket's west coast between Kamala and Bang Tao, in the Choeng Thale subdistrict. It is a quiet, upmarket stretch of sand with a steep shelf, real surf and red flags from May to October, a handful of restaurants along the beach road and little else. Public transport barely exists here: blue songthaews pass on the main road only occasionally, taxis charge a tourist fare even for the 3 km to Bang Tao, and supermarkets, pharmacies and ATMs sit a couple of kilometres inland. A motorbike in Surin is less a holiday toy than the normal way to get around.
Our nearest branch is the Bangtao office at 126 Srisoonthorn Road, Choeng Thale — 4-5 km from Surin Beach, about 8-10 minutes by bike, open daily 08:00-18:00. Collect the bike there, or we bring it to your hotel or villa in Surin. Paperwork takes around 10 minutes: we need your passport (we make the copy ourselves) - no driving licence is required to rent from us. The original passport stays with you - we never keep it as security. The deposit is cash: 3 000฿ for scooters up to 160cc and 7 000฿ for the 350cc models.

Which bike to choose for Surin
Surin itself is easy riding: the coast road north to Bang Tao is flat and wide. Engine size is decided by two places - the short steep ramp from the beach back up to the main road, and the headland road south towards Laem Singh and Kamala.
- Honda Scoopy 110 - cheapest and lightest, fine if you stay in Surin, ride solo and mostly go to the beach, the restaurants on Surin Beach Road and the shops on Srisoonthorn Road.
- Honda Click 125 - the everyday all-rounder for Surin, Bang Tao and Cherng Talay; it takes the beach ramp without complaint.
- Honda Click 160 ABS - the sensible pick two-up or if you cross the hill to Kamala and Patong often. ABS earns its money on wet asphalt in the rainy season.
- Honda PCX 160 ABS or ADV 160 - for long island days, airport runs with luggage and highway kilometres on Route 402: wider seat, better wind protection, taller suspension on the ADV.

Where to park a bike in Surin
Parking here is easier than at most west-coast beaches, but a few local habits help:
- A large shaded public car park sits at the beach entrance off Surin Beach Road; bikes go along the edges. It is busy from 10:00 to 17:00 in high season, but a scooter almost always fits.
- Restaurants and beach clubs on the beach road keep bike parking for customers - use it rather than the verge, as the road is narrow and buses turn there.
- Red-and-white kerb markings mean no stopping at all, and on the beach road the police really do clear bikes left on them.
- The Laem Singh viewpoint south of Surin is a narrow lay-by on a bend: pull fully off the asphalt and take your phone and documents with you.
- Hotels, villas and condos in Surin almost always have free guest bike parking inside the gate - use it at night rather than the street.
Where to ride from Surin
- South over the headland to Laem Singh and Kamala - the viewpoint is about 2 km away, Kamala around 6 km and 12 minutes, with two steep bends and a drop on the sea side. Laem Singh beach has no road access any more: it is boat only, or a 15-minute scramble over the rocks from the Surin end.

- Inland on Srisoonthorn Road - the Heroines Monument, old Thalang, Wat Phra Thong and Bang Pae waterfall: 20-25 km and about 35 minutes each way.
- Phuket Town old quarter - roughly 25 km and 40 minutes across the island for Sino-Portuguese shophouses, coffee and street food: renting in Phuket Town.
Police checks, licence and helmets
Checkpoints work regularly on Srisoonthorn Road and on the coastal road between Surin and Kamala, and documents really are checked. We do not require a driving licence to rent a bike from us - a passport and the cash deposit are enough. Thai law is a separate matter: riding a motorbike legally requires a category A or A1 licence, Thai or an international permit, and that is exactly what the police check. The fine for riding without the right licence is 1 000฿, and riding without a helmet costs up to 2 000฿.
