Bangtao is an eight-kilometre beach in Phuket's northwest: Laguna, Boat Avenue, the restaurants of Cherngtalay. The area is stretched out and you can't manage here without wheels — motorbike rental in Bangtao starts at 400฿ a day, or about 135฿ a day on a monthly rental.

We have our own office in Bangtao: 126 Srisoonthorn Road. That means you can look a bike over in person and take it straight away instead of waiting for delivery — and if anything goes wrong you can come by the same day rather than phoning from half an island away.
To sign you need a passport and a cash deposit of 3,000–10,000฿ depending on the model. We copy it in front of you; the original stays with you. The bike is handed over with a full tank of 95-octane, two helmets and medical insurance covering hospital treatment up to 50,000฿ in case of an accident.
Bangtao is not a compact resort but a stretch of coast several kilometres long, with the village of Cherng Talay, the Laguna complex and villas and condos scattered around. Everything here is far from everything else: the shop, the beach, the café and the market are rarely in the same place.
That is why a bike matters more in the north than in the south: there is barely anywhere to walk to, and taxis for every trip quickly add up to what a week's rental costs.
The terrain here is gentler than in Kata or Patong — there are almost no steep switchbacks. The roads, though, are long and straight, so comfort matters more than power:

Two things worth knowing about the north in particular. The first is lighting: the side roads between the villas and along the fields have few streetlights, and in the dark it is easy to miss a pothole or a dog. Coming home in the evening, stick to the main roads and take it slowly.
The second is fuel. There are fewer stations between areas than in the tourist centre, so fill up before a long trip rather than relying on roadside bottles. We hand the bike over with a full tank.
