Karon is Phuket's second-largest beach: a wide strip of sand, a promenade and a relaxed pace. The easiest way to reach Patong and the southern viewpoints is by bike — motorbike rental in Karon starts at 400฿ a day, or from about 135฿ a day on a monthly rental.

The office is on Patak Road 306/3 — the road that links Karon and Kata, running along the hill and easy to spot from either side. No appointment needed: come in, look the bikes over in person, ask the mechanic anything you want.
All you need is your passport and the cash deposit — 3,000–10,000฿ depending on the model. We take a copy; the original stays with you. Paperwork takes about ten minutes, and the bike comes with a full tank of 95-octane, two helmets and medical insurance covering hospital treatment up to 50,000฿ in case of an accident.
Karon itself is one of the easiest areas on the island for a beginner: the beach road is long, straight and almost flat, and the traffic is calmer than in Patong. The moment you leave the village, though, the climbs start.
Karon sits conveniently: the south of the island is close and the north is reachable in a single trip.

Parking in Karon is noticeably easier than in Patong: most hotels have their own bike area, and there is usually space along the beach road. Avoid the red-and-white kerb markings — that is where the traffic police work.
Police checkpoints operate regularly in the tourist areas of Phuket, Karon included, and they do check documents. A helmet is mandatory for rider and passenger alike, which is why we hand over two.
