Secret Phuket: A Biker's Route to Non-Touristic Places
Secret Phuket - a world of secluded bays, abandoned viewpoints, jungle waterfalls, and authentic villages. This route is specially designed for those who want to see the real Phuket, accessible only on two wheels.
Day 1: West Coast and Hidden Beaches
Morning: Banana Beach - A Lost Paradise
- Route: Head north along the scenic road 4018 along the coast from Bang Tao to Nai Thon.
- How to find: Look for an inconspicuous parking lot on the left side of the road about halfway between Trisara Hotel and Nai Thon Beach (landmark: several parked bikes). Coordinates: 8.04953, 98.27787.
- What awaits you: A short descent along a jungle trail will lead you to a pristine beach with white sand. No hotels here, only one cafe. Perfect for snorkeling by the rocks and secluded relaxation.
Day: Ao Sane Beach - Three Bays for Divers
- Route: Head back south to Nai Harn Beach. Before entering The Nai Harn hotel, turn left onto the road that passes through its territory.
- How to find: Coordinates: 7.77881, 98.29953.
- What awaits you: Three rocky bays separated by boulders. One of the best places for snorkeling right from the shore. The underwater world is rich with corals and fish. Fantastic photos against "Seychelles-like" landscapes.
Evening: Return to Kata/Karon.
Tip: If you have energy left, on the way back you can stop at Windmill Viewpoint (between Yanui and Nai Harn) - a less-known alternative to Promthep Cape with windmills and stunning sunset.
Day 2: Southeast, Panwa Cape and Panoramas
Morning: Ao Yon Beach - Yachting Idyll
- Route: Head southeast to Panwa Cape along road 4023. After the aquarium, continue along the coastal road.
- How to find: Parking coordinates at the large part of the beach (Ao Yon Yai): 7.81835, 98.38442.
- What awaits you: A calm bay without waves, perfect for families. Yachts moor here, creating a special atmosphere. You can go kayaking, and there's a pearl farm nearby.
Day: Khao Khad Viewpoint (Panwa Viewpoint) - 360° View
- Route: From Ao Yon, follow road 4129 according to signs to the observation tower.
- How to find: Coordinates: 7.83858, 98.39002.
- What awaits you: A circular tower offering a unique view of the east coast: Phuket Town, Chalong Bay, the Big Buddha statue, and in the distance - Phi Phi Islands. Silence and coolness guaranteed.
On the way back (alternative): You can visit the Rawai sea gypsy village at the southernmost tip of the island (road 4024 to the end) to see the authentic life of fishermen.
Day 3: Jungle Adventure and Completion
Morning: Black Rock Viewpoint (Pa Hin Dam) - A View You Must Earn
- Route: The most extreme point. Drive almost to Karon Viewpoint. About 500 meters before it (from Kata side), there will be a sharp left turn uphill.
- How to find: Turn coordinates: 7.79971, 98.30591. Climb the narrow concrete road to the parking lot, then 10-15 minutes walk along the trail.
- What awaits you: Panoramic view of southern Phuket from a huge black rock. No crowds, just jungle and sea. Best time - sunset.
Day (optional):
- Bang Pae Waterfall: Refresh in natural pools near the airport (road 4027, then dirt road near Wat Bang Pae temple).
- Secret Buddha Garden: Find a private garden with dozens of statues in the hills (from the ring road turn towards the temple and then along the trail).
- Abandoned Observatory: For urban tourism lovers and panoramic photos (serpentine road from Kata, then barely noticeable trail).
Evening: Return to Kata/Karon.
Optimal Circular Route:
- Total length: ~80-100 km (including all branches).
- Recommended time: 2-3 days without rush.
- Logistics: Break the route into days as indicated above to avoid fatigue and enjoy each place.
Important Tips for Bikers:
Navigation:
- Be sure to use offline maps (Maps.me) and save all coordinates in advance.
- Mobile connection may disappear in some areas.
Safety:
- For Black Rock - only comfortable trekking shoes.
- Always have water supply and sunscreen.
- On dirt sections (to the waterfall, observatory) be careful, especially after rain.
Fuel:
- Fill up completely at the beginning of the day.
- There are fewer gas stations at Panwa Cape.
Time:
- Leave early in the morning to avoid heat and find places without crowds.
